The Accommodation

We have two rooms to let, one double with king size bed and en-suite shower room and one twin room also with en-suite shower room. Both rooms are on the ground floor so no stairs, and have T.V. and tea/coffee making facilities. A full cooked breakfast is taken in the dining room using fresh produce from local suppliers and home laid eggs (if the hens are obliging!). Guests can use the seating area in the conservatory where they will find plenty of magazines, local info, books and games and if the weather is kind there are chairs and a table on the patio, and a large garden/orchard to explore. The Water Tower is a No Smoking home, and I'm afraid that we can't cater for pets at present.

The Local Area

Dirleton is quiet village between the popular towns of North Berwick and Gullane, it is dominated by the ruined Norman Castle which along with its beautiful gardens is a busy tourist attraction. Dirleton has two hotels both offering excellent food and a small general store/post office. North Berwick, 2 miles East of Dirleton is a thriving town with great shops, restaurants, harbour area and 4star tourist attraction, the Scottish Seabird Centre. Golf is a major draw to the county and there are 10 quality courses within 3 miles of the Water Tower including: Muirfield, Gullane & North Berwick. The area boasts some fabulous beaches with Yellowcraigs only a brisk walk from the village as well as super ones at Gullane and North Berwick. For walkers the John Muir Way follows the coast of the county including the Aberlady Bay nature reserve.

Dirleton has very good public transport links with a bus at least every half hour to either North Berwick or West to Edinburgh. There is a regular Train to Edinburgh from North Berwick station 7 days a week.

Other local attractions include: The Museum of Flight, where you will find Concord. Lennoxlove House, historic home of the Dukes of Hamilton. Tantallon Castle. the East of Scotland Mining Museum. The Bass Rock, home to the worlds largest population of Gannets (during the breeding season), trips from North Berwick harbour.

All in all The Water Tower is a great base to enjoy these and East Lothians many other attractions. To find us turn down the lane between the Open Arms Hotel and its carpark we are 200 yards on the right, with plenty of off road parking space.

Looking to Play Golf?

We are happy to arrange golf for guests before they arrive, either a random round or a full schedule, some courses can get very busy in the summer months so booking ahead is advisable. Obviously there are big differences in price between different courses so feel free to get in touch to see what deals are in place and which courses are playing well. You can't beat a bit of local knowledge!
